Steve Alaimo began his musical career as one of the first "blue eyed soul"
recording artists, enabling him to work with music industry giants
Burt Bacharach and Ahmet Ertegun. Steve’s singing talents eventually
led him to hosting his own ABC television network show called
"Where the Action Is". Legendary music guru Dick Clark produced the show
that also featured Mark Lindsey and Paul Revere and the Raiders. Steve’s
working relationship with Dick, Paul and Mark soon grew into a close personal
friendship that continues today.
Next up, the business of making and selling records. One of Steve’s early
successes was recording and producing an Allman Brothers album called
Gregg and Duane. (Steve and Gregg co-wrote the passionate "Melissa").
Steve and his manager friend Henry Stone then founded a small independent record
company called TK Records. Hialeah, (best known for horse racing) was about to
become home to one of the most successful independent record companies in the
world!
Steve and Henry signed a talented young singer named Betty Wright and along with
singer/songwriter Clarence Reid they began recording. It wasn’t long before
Betty had her first Billboard charted hit,
"Girls Can’t Do What The Guys Do".
That success led Betty to additional number one R&B hits including
"The Clean Up Woman" and Grammy Award Winner "Where Is The Love"?
TK’s success continued with worldwide hits "Rock Your Baby" by George McCrae and
Anita Ward’s "Ring My Bell". Steve and Henry began face-less album covers as
Black radio was readily playing TK product, not realizing that Foxy ("Get Off",
"Hot Number") and Bobby Caldwell ("What You Won’t Do For Love") where white
artists.
Of course the unprecedented sussess of K.C. and the Sunshine Band gave
TK Records worldwide recognition as one of the most important record
companies in the world.
(Did I mention they where in Hialeah?) In 1987 Steve
(and his partners Howard Albert and Ron Albert) formed two new companies.
Vision Records, an independent record company offering national distribution to
new and established artists including Betty Wright, Stephen Stills, Jimmy Cliff
and Dion. Additionally they opened Audio Vision Recording Studios (initially for
their in house use).
Recently Audio Vision Studios was opened to the recording community,
offering major labels, producers and local artists a state of the art recording
facility.
